(816) 823-4547Ms. Katina Hanson currently serves as the Division Director for the Policy and Oversight Division (POD) in the Office of Grants and Financial Management at the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Her Division, POD, includes the Policy Branch, which oversees interpretation of statutory provisions and develops and publishes associated regulations and Requests for Application (RFAs), and the Oversight Branch, which oversees audit, internal control and risk management activities of the Agency.
Ms. Hanson joined NIFA from the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) where she held a variety of positions in Washington, D.C. and Kansas City, MO. She previously served as Chief of Staff to the FSA Associate Administrator for Policy and Programs and was the Acting FSA Director for External Affairs, as well as, Acting Legislative Liaison and Acting Director of External Affairs for the FPAC Mission Area during their realignment. She also previously served as National Program Manager for the Conservation Reserve Enhancement, Emergency Conservation and Emergency Forest Restoration Programs, Senior Policy Analyst, and Planning and Analysis Branch Chief. In addition, she served on the inaugural Executive Committee for Women in Agriculture. At FSA, Katina launched the Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership grant program and led the transition of the Organic Certification Cost-Share grant program to the Agency. She also has served as Acting Budget Officer for the Risk Management Agency and began her federal career as a Resource Conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Pacific Islands Area Office.
Throughout her career with USDA, she has managed budgets and staff, written regulations and other policy, negotiated statutory language, responded to multiple audits, served on numerous interagency and intergovernmental teams and worked with a variety of partners including universities and extension.
Prior to joining federal service, Katina worked for Hawaii state government and for multiple nonprofits, including as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Boston, MA. Katina has her Master of Environmental Management from Yale University and Bachelor of Science in Rangeland Ecology and Management from Texas A&M University.
