(816) 926-2334Dr. Dentzman serves as a Social Science Program Specialist within the Division of Agricultural Systems in the Institute of Food Production and Sustainability at NIFA.
She received her Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Ecological Food and Farming Systems from Michigan State University in 2017, subsequently working under both AFRI and SCRI grants as a postdoctoral research associate at Washington State University and the University of Idaho.
Her areas of expertise include environmental sociology, sociology of agriculture, agricultural technology adoption, intersectional identities in farming, and community management of natural resources. She is interested in the idea of non-belonging in agricultural systems and how social norms prevent both people (ex. women and LGBTQ+ farmers) and practices (ex. integrated weed management) from contributing to the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of farms.
